Patrice Completes Caricature of Dave Devall, CTV's Famous Weatherman, Who Retires in April
As a sketch artist for CTV and an avid follower of his career, Stephens-Bourgeault has watched Devall's unique weather reporting for decades. She had designed caricatures for friends before, but she was thrilled when CTV approached her to make one of Devall as a retirement gift.
"Dave was so hard to do because he has so many different expressions," said Stephens-Bourgeault as she sorted through dozens of images of Devall that she used to make the image.
"The other problem is that I can't find any actual pictures of him and all the shots from television are too pixelated to see the details of the lines in his face."
|
She wanted to make sure she was able to capture all that was Devall in her latest work, which she was in the process of revamping in time for his retirement.
"I wanted to get all the aspects of his life interacting with each other," said Stephens-Bourgeault. "Caricatures are beautiful because when I paint Dave Devall I can express his whole life."
Though Stephens-Bourgeault doesn't know Devall on a personal level, she has met him several times through her work with CTV and said that he is a "very personal guy that makes a point to remember the name of every person he meets."

The 1999 First World Symposium on Culture, Health, and the Arts
Survey Results on the Effects of Art on Medical Outcomes
Although results are limited, Ulrich said it is possible to suggest the following
preliminary research-informed guidelines for choosing psychologically appropriate
art to serve a therapeutic purpose in health care settings: the art should be obviously
positive; the images in the art should be recognizable, and depth in the picture seems |
to be important; impressionistic art is acceptable as long as it is identifiable, but
chaotic and abstract art should be avoided; nature scenes should be sunny, with green
vegetation rather than brown; if people are represented, they should exhibit unambiguously
positive facial expressions and gestures that are caring or nurturing. |
